Join us for an evening of variety storytelling, where you can share your story in any format you like – anecdote, poem, song, spoken word, rap, doodle or interpretive dance.

Seeing as our event falls the day after April Fool’s Day, we thought it apt to go with the theme ‘Foolish Behaviour’, so start thinking about which tales you’ll tell…

15th January – Status and Reputation

Posted on

Time to stick it to the man! Or something.

We want to know what you’ve gained notoriety for, when you stood up to the powers that be, or when you’ve been acutely aware of your place in a hierarchy.

Have you ever had a reputation among your peers? Was it good or bad? And how did it come about? Or maybe you’ve gone from zero to hero in a situation – whatever it is, we want to hear about it.

Tell you story in whatever format you like – flash fiction, anecdote, poem, rap, song, or bawdy limerick.

Entry is free, and our two top storytellers will receive a free drink and the much sought-after Let Me Tell You a Story, Jack medals!

Bring your tales and your friends, you’re more than welcome to just listen and support our storytellers if you’d rather not go up to the mic.

WE’RE BACK!  We’ve got a new venue just in time for our fifth birthday in autumn (the lovely Left Bank, just across the road from our previous venue on Stoke Croft), and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all. But first, let’s get back to the important issue of BODY TALK.

We all have them, and they have quite the story to tell. How do you feel about your body? What’s your favourite bit? Has it ever let you down in public? Or impressed you with its resilience?

We want to head your stories of body parts, functions and self perception, in any medium you see fit. Read us a short story or poem, sing us a song, perform an interpretive dance or draw us an intimate map of your leg fracture. Or just come to listen!

Storytellers have a max. 5min limit and get a free drink for going up to the mic!

Friday 25th September – Our 2nd birthday party!

Will in his traditional folk garb

Unbelievably, it’s been two years since we first lit up the stage of the very new (so new in fact, that it didn’t even have its license yet) Crofters Rights, and in that time we’ve met lots of people, heard some incredible stories and been treated to an array of weird and wonderful songs from Will.

Join us on the 25th September for an extra special night of storytelling – in addition to all the usual sweets, medals and shenanigans we’ll also have some special prizes, party tat and maybe even cake!

Pete Sutton reads his chilling story to our extensive audience

We’re really proud of the fun & supportive community we’ve created in the past 24 months, and it’s been amazing to see so many of you start off as nervous first-timers and then go on to be regular performers across the writing circuit, so hopefully you can make it along to celebrate with us.

Bring your best stories about birthdays, parties and celebrations – or just tell us about your best experiences at Let Me Tell You a Story, Jack! (it can’t just be us getting all nostalgic). As usual all storytellers get a free drink.

Wednesday 14th January – Folk Tales and Festivals!

Posted on Updated on

This month we’re going full-on with the festivities and folk tales, as Will & Shonette unearth a long forgotten traditional winter festival to brighten up your dreary January! Think Morris Dancers, Druids, Maypoles, The Wicker Man, Glastonbury, The Winter Solstice…

In addition, we’ll be once again giving out prizes for the best stories, so start thinking of what you’ll share with us. You could read us a short story, play us a nice tune, do some stand up comedy, perform a poem, or just tell us your favourite holiday anecdote. Prizes are in the categories of:

– Folk Tales
– Festivals & Holidays

But you can perform about any topic you like on the night – maybe if it’s good enough you’ll get a prize anyway 😉

Thanks again to Ink Spills Inc for a very very cool poster. See you all on the 14th!
