Entry is free, plus we’ll be giving out sweets, cake & other birthday paraphernalia (feel free to bring us a card or a present…), and all storytellers will get a free drink, how nice is that eh?

Join us for our first event of 2016 and tell us about your ambitions, poorly thought out resolutions and general ill-advised attempts at self help or reinvention.

What did you want to be when you grew up? Are you too shallow for a meditation retreat? Too drunk to do Dryanuary? Or maybe you actually realised your dreams and achieved something amazing – we want to hear it all!

Entry is FREE, all storytellers get a FREE DRINK and you all get FREE SWEETIES for being bloody lovely.

Oooh ooh, and if you’re needing a double fix of us in March, come see us for the Bristol Seed Swap at Feed Bristol on Sat 5th March – we’ll be doing our usual mix of storytelling, music & games alongisde some green-fingered folks who will be giving talks, sharing cake and of course swapping seeds.

Hurrah!

Friday 25th September – Our 2nd birthday party!

Will in his traditional folk garb

Unbelievably, it’s been two years since we first lit up the stage of the very new (so new in fact, that it didn’t even have its license yet) Crofters Rights, and in that time we’ve met lots of people, heard some incredible stories and been treated to an array of weird and wonderful songs from Will.

Join us on the 25th September for an extra special night of storytelling – in addition to all the usual sweets, medals and shenanigans we’ll also have some special prizes, party tat and maybe even cake!

Pete Sutton reads his chilling story to our extensive audience

We’re really proud of the fun & supportive community we’ve created in the past 24 months, and it’s been amazing to see so many of you start off as nervous first-timers and then go on to be regular performers across the writing circuit, so hopefully you can make it along to celebrate with us.

Bring your best stories about birthdays, parties and celebrations – or just tell us about your best experiences at Let Me Tell You a Story, Jack! (it can’t just be us getting all nostalgic). As usual all storytellers get a free drink.

More from our storytellers – Lies, aliens and MSN Messenger!

Another month and yet another packed out crowd for storytelling! We’re seriously overwhelmed by the amount of support and feedback for the event – both from our wonderful regulars and the new faces we see each month.

This month’s theme was ‘Lies, Scandal and Deceit’, so we were expecting some spectacular stories from you all and you certainly didn’t disappoint.

Previous medal-winner Christie Cluett kicked off the night with , followed by true life tales from Thomas David Parker (his about his great aunt, a deceitful Irish nun) and myself (an MSN Messenger dual-identity cringefest).

We then moved on to a series of brilliant readings from new faces – Mark Rutherford was trying to win the approval of his hard-to-please stepson Charlie (including some excellent kazoo playing) and Kevlin Henney told us a creepy tale of jealously (I’ll never see Masterchef in the same way ever again), and then we ended on an alien-based story from Mel Ciavucco, who then went on to win a medal in the audience vote at the end!

ben reading
The audience squash in for the second half – starting with Ben’s short story

The second off was kick-started with a murderous tale from Ben, followed by a story which went on to win the second audience vote – Nathan read his short story about the ‘great leader’, complete with some brilliant urban slang. The night ended with the sinister ‘iButler’ from Pete Sutton, and a femme fatale from Angela Brooks. As you can tell, it was quite an eclectic mix!

We also got two lovely reviews of the night, one from one of our storytellers Pete Sutton, and one from Girl in Bristol – if you have any pictures or feedback on the night you can post them in the comments or on our Facebook page 🙂

We’ll see you again in mid May – keep an eye to the website, our Facebook page or Twitter for more details closer to the time!

Wednesday 14th January – Folk Tales and Festivals!

Posted on Updated on

This month we’re going full-on with the festivities and folk tales, as Will & Shonette unearth a long forgotten traditional winter festival to brighten up your dreary January! Think Morris Dancers, Druids, Maypoles, The Wicker Man, Glastonbury, The Winter Solstice…

In addition, we’ll be once again giving out prizes for the best stories, so start thinking of what you’ll share with us. You could read us a short story, play us a nice tune, do some stand up comedy, perform a poem, or just tell us your favourite holiday anecdote. Prizes are in the categories of:

– Folk Tales
– Festivals & Holidays

But you can perform about any topic you like on the night – maybe if it’s good enough you’ll get a prize anyway 😉

Thanks again to Ink Spills Inc for a very very cool poster. See you all on the 14th!

Also, keep your eyes peeled around Bristol for this lush poster, designed by Stephen Kelly at Ink Spills Inc.
